Organisers of Highball – New Zealand’s cocktail & spirits festival – have announced that the New Zealand Bartender of the Year competition will take place during this year’s event.
The first NZ BOTY competition for 11 years, bartenders will be challenged in all aspects of the profession, beginning with an entry round where they must create a cocktail in the theme of STAYCATION – or exploring our own backyards.
During the two-day competition in Wellington on May 7-8, bartenders will complete a written exam and a blind test of 10 unmarked liquids.
Top entrants will then to move on to compete in categories including group-serve cocktails, a market challenge and a speed challenge.
The prize for the winning bartender is set to be announced soon.
