Marlborough vineyard, Yealands Wine Estate, has suffered damage in the 7.5 earthquake that struck in the early hours of Monday morning.

A statement on the vineyard, located in the Awatere Valley, says:

“We are extremely grateful that everyone in our immediate family is safe and unharmed. While there is some damage at the winery, the winery building withstood the conditions well, as it was designed to do. It remains closed for safety reasons while the damage is being assessed and cleaned.

“The team onsite are doing a great job at getting things in order and pushing ahead to get us back up and running as quickly as possible.”

According to The Marlborough Express, wine was lost from tanks at the Riverlands Industrial Estate, south of Blenheim.
