Kiwi wine brand donates $500,000 to global biodiversity projects

Stoneleigh has announced ‘Nature This One’s On Us’, a new campaign which will support diversity projects across the country with NZ$500,000 split between the public’s chosen charity.

With every purchase of Stoneleigh from now until 31 December 2022, consumers can scan the QR code and get a ‘Stoneleigh Coin’ which they can then use to allocate a portion of the funds towards one of three charities: The Marlborough Falcon Conservation Trust, Conservation Volunteers New Zealand or The Native Forest Restoration Trust.

Each ‘Stoneleigh Coin’ is counted as a vote and the charities will receive a monetary donation based on the percentage of coins per charity in each market.

“We believe getting back to nature means giving back to nature,” says Stoneleigh Chief Winemaker, Jamie Marfell.

“Every act counts, whether we’re planting seeds or building an entire wetland ecosystem. At the end of the day, what’s good for nature is good for us.”

The charities:

The Marlborough Falcon Conservation Trust is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of New Zealand’s only endemic species of falcon, the Kārearea (New Zealand Falcon).

Conservation Volunteers New Zealand brings people together to plant and care for native trees, eradicate pests and weeds, protect threatened species, restore waterways and help make natural spaces accessible to everyone.

The Native Forest Restoration Trust will create a fund for the purchase and restoration of native forest. Each piece of land that the Trust purchases is assessed on its ecological significance, viability for ensuring the long-term sustainability of that particular type of habitat and capacity to naturally regenerate.

“We’re so pleased to be able to have the opportunity to work closely with our consumers and make this a collaborative process,” says Marfell.

“We know our Stoneleigh fans truly care for the environment and we’re looking forward to giving them this opportunity to tell us where to allocate our donations across three very worthy charities.”
