Finalists in the 2023 Diversity Awards NZ were announced this week, with liquor distributor Constellation Brands nominated in the ‘Diverse Talent Award’ category.

The awards recognising the work companies are doing to advance a culture of belonging in workplaces throughout New Zealand.

The Diverse Talent Award recognises an organisation that demonstrates either (or both):

  • How it has implemented initiatives that attracted talent from specific groups that were underrepresented in their organisation, and how barriers were removed in order for these candidates to progress through the recruitment process.
  • How it implemented initiatives to improve career development processes in order to ensure that diversity is represented across the organisation.

Constellation Brands says its mission is to foster an inclusive culture characterised by diversity in background and thought, and where all employees feel welcomed as their authentic selves.

“Our DE&I [diversity, equity and inclusion] strategy helps drive a company-wide mindset that weaves diversity, equity and inclusion into everything we do, enabling us to build an inclusive work culture while staying ahead of today’s evolving consumer landscape,” says Mike McGrew, EVP, Chief Communications, CSR & Diversity Officer.

“For us, DE&I is both the right thing to do and critical to building a strong, sustainable business that continues to succeed over the long-term.”

Constellation Brands is up against KPMG, LawVu, Rocket Lab and Warner Bros for the Diversity Talent Award.

Diversity Works New Zealand Chief Executive Maretha Smit says selecting finalists was a difficult task, with an astounding range of entries in terms of depth and breadth.

“The submissions this year demonstrated a better understanding of the awards categories and criteria, and included an array of evidence demonstrating the positive impact this mahi is having on the culture of organisations and the experience of the people who work within them.”

The award winners will be announced in Auckland on Wednesday, 30 August.
