Ukrainian spirits industry calls for help from global bars and venues

A group of spirits industry professionals has launched a project to support a group of Ukrainian restaurants that cook for people affected by the Russian invasion.

BudmoUA – which comes from Budmo, which means “Let us be!” in Ukranian – has a goal to help feed 16,800 people from Kyiv and Kharkiv every day.

“Our mission is to provide everyone who fights for our victory with a hot meal and physical resources to win this war,” says the BudmoUA website.

“We launched BudmoUA to support people who defend our land, save lives and need our help.

“Every day a community of chefs, bartenders and volunteers cook food for 16, 800 people in Ukraine, including our military forces, young mothers, people in bomb shelters.

“[The] main idea of BudmoUA is to involve bars from all over the world , to get support from our hospitality industry colleagues and to spread our cheering tradition.

“We want our people to be safe, healthy and free.”

The BudmoUA project is asking bars globally to create a special cocktail dedicated to Ukraine and then donate a part of its revenue to the cause.

Or, alternatively, to mark one or more cocktails on the menu with a BudmoUA sticker to encourage customers and guests to cheer “BUDMO!” in Ukrainian.

BudmoUA says that every 10 Euro (NZD$16) provides food for one person per day.
