Spotlight on a local: OGB

Each week we will be featuring a local bar, pub or club to help boost the Kiwi hospitality industry and encourage customers to get out and explore!

This week Ashleigh Robertson from Christchurch’s OGB shares some insights into this speakeasy-style bar housed in a beautiful heritage building in Cathedral Square.

How has business been going post lockdown?
We have been blown away by the support of our locals and OGB family, business has been really good, and hoping it will continue, we are looking forward to spring/summer at OGB.

What have you been doing to encourage customers to come back to your local?
We started a ‘2 for 1 burger night’ every Tuesday, this has also been a way to say thank you to everyone who has been supporting us! We have also continued our live music three days a week, which provides a great atmosphere for our customers.

How would you describe the atmosphere of OGB?
Hustle & bustle, romantic, cozy, alive.

What is your signature drink?
Austin Robin – a house cocktail that has been with us from the beginning.

Why do you think your local stands out from the crowd?
Our staff and our proprietor Nick are the heartbeat of OGB – they have a genuine love and passion for OGB, Christchurch and good old fashioned hospitality. Our live music, quality of product and location are also things we love!

What are your 3 top tips for being a great bartender?
Flare, confidence and passion.
