Liquor sales to continue through lockdown

With supermarkets remaining open during the Level 4 COVID-19 Alert, New Zealanders shifted their focus to panic buying from liquor stores in West Auckland where supermarkets are dry.

However, West Auckland’s The Trusts has announced a selection of its stores will be open for trading until Thursday – with trading restrictions.

A maximum of three customers per store will be allowed at any one time and those waiting outside will have to stand two metres apart. PayWave is preferred customers will need to complete a guest register when entering the store.

From Thursday onwards, customers will need to phone or email their orders, before going to the store to show their identification and pick up their goods outside the store, acting chief executive Matt Williams told Stuff.

Supermarkets will continue to sell beer, wine and cider but liquor stores outside West Auckland are will not remain open after 11.59pm on Wednesday, March 25.
