Kūmara rum startup launches crowdfunding campaign

Auckland-based rum company, Bayside Rum Co, has launched a single barrel partner programme and pre-order campaign.

The programme and campaign, which are running on PledgeMe, will help the rum startup branch into new rum line categories and build resilience into its supply chain.

The Single Barrel Partner Programme looks to work with up to 10 rum enthusiasts and connoisseurs each year to co-develop unique products that represent the different regions of New Zealand.

At the end of the distillation process, the partner will have the option to get the final products bottled and branded as Bayside Rum Co limited edition releases and re-sold alongside the existing product range.

The partner barrel co-investment will result in approximately 500 craft rum bottles for the partner.

The initial investment offer for the first partner will be NZ$8,000 via PledgeMe, and all subsequent partners will require a NZ$10,000 investment.

“After establishing the company and launching the kūmara based ‘Three Moons’ Rum last year, we picked up a silver medal at the New Zealand Spirits Awards and developed a strong retail presence with our bottles stocked in bars, restaurants and stores across Aotearoa,” says Egor Petrov, Founder and Managing Director of Bayside Rum Co.

“But despite our initial success, our business faced some pandemic-related supply-chain problems.

“Looking towards 2023, our goal is to expand the product range and develop supply chain resiliency to ensure that products can be replaced as quickly as they leave the shelves.”

Alongside the Single Barrel Partner Programme, Bayside is launching a pre-order campaign for a new line of products called Sugar & Spice.

“This PledgeMe campaign will not only help us establish a more robust supply chain, but will also give Kiwis a chance to play an active role in writing the next chapter in the history of New Zealand Spirits,” says Petrov. “We developed a successful recipe, and we want it to be available in Aotearoa and beyond.”
