Master Sommelier and The Shout NZ‘s wine expert, Cameron Douglas, has stepped down from his senior lecturing role Auckland University of Technology after more than 25 years.
Douglas, who was in charge of the Wine and Beverage Programme at AUT, will take up a new role as Rodd & Gunn’s Beverage Director & Group Sommelier.
“This new role puts me directly in the profession I love,” says Douglas. “I have been working with Rodd & Gunn and The Lodge Bar teams for five years now, and their exciting plans for future projects means we’re going to be busier than ever.”
Rodd & Gunn has opened The Lodge Bar in Queenstown, Auckland and, most recently, Chadstone in Melbourne, where Cameron Douglas curated the expansive wine list. A fourth location, on James St in Brisbane, is set to open this May.
Inspired by raw, pure forms of nature found in New Zealand, The Lodge Bar features a curated selection of beverages, showcasing the best of New Zealand, and supplemented by a locally sourced food menu.
Douglas says he is excited about the new adventures and challenges ahead.
“[I] will continue writing in my magazines, website & reviews, writing and judging, and will be doing even more travelling within Aotearoa and Australia, the Americas and the UK (once restrictions are loosened),” he says.
New Zealand’s first Master Sommelier (and one of only around 240 in the world), Cameron Douglas is also Patron of the New Zealand Sommeliers and on the Board of Directors for the Court of Master Sommeliers Americas.
