Marriott International’s first New Zealand hotel, Four Points by Sheraton Auckland, opened last year in the heart of the CBD. While the 255-room property has been steadily taking bookings, there’s still a piece of the puzzle to complete on level 20.
Scheduled to open in May 2019, Churchills is the crown jewel of the hotel. The rooftop gin bar will take up 150 square metres of the top level, making use of the panoramic vistas of the city. Interior designer Paul Izzard has been enlisted to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a Shanghai rooftop cocktail bar. Features include booths right in front of the bar which can be curtained off and two private rooms only accessible by staircase and which provide space for up to 12 people.
Gin is the headline beverage. There will be a rotating selection of ten varieties of mother’s ruin on the menu at all times, along with ten varieties of tonic and ten garnishes. Customers will be able to personalise their own cocktails by providing the number of their favourite gin, tonic and garnish from the menu. For those unsure, there will be gin tastings available.
Churchills is currently looking a candidate to play a part in many of the bar’s finishing details. They will be granted the freedom and opportunity to express their own creativity and to make the bar their own.
Elsewhere in the property is the historic Queen’s Head Bar & Eatery which reopened its doors alongside Four Points by Sheraton Auckland.
Four Points by Sheraton Auckland is located at 396 Queen Street, Auckland. Churchills is due to open May 2019.
