New industry appointments

Dan Shea and Christiaan Crous

Aotearoa NZ Fine Wine Estates – owner of fine wine brands Pyramid Valley, Smith & Sheth and Lowburn Ferry – has announced the appointment of Dan Shea as National Sales Manager.

Shea spent 17 years at Mills Reef Winery where he held a variety of positions including Sales Manager, Brand Manager and, after the recent merger with The Wine Portfolio, Key Account Manager.

In his new role, he will manage all domestic sales and distribution efforts for Aotearoa NZ Fine Wine Estates, supporting national distributor Negociants New Zealand from his home base in Tauranga.

“We are thrilled to have a person with Dan’s experience, industry knowledge and already established industry relationships join our team,” says Chief Executive Officer, MJ Loza.

“As part of the recruitment process, we spoke to several industry contacts and I was impressed by the consistent descriptors used to describe him – competitive, trustworthy, tenacious, loyal, someone passionate about fine wine and someone who goes the extra mile to look after his customers.

AONZ is responsible for making cool climate Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc under the Pyramid Valley, Smith & Sheth and Lowburn Ferry brands.

Established as a partnership in 2016 by Steve Smith MW and Brian Sheth, a US-based investor with a background in technology and environmental philanthropy, their goal is to cement New Zealand’s reputation for exceptional wine.

Shea joins Aotearoa NZ Fine Wine Estates on Tuesday, 19 April 2022.

DB Breweries has promoted Christiaan Crous to Sales Director, where he will sit in the DB Management Team and lead the sales function.

Previously holding the Head of Off-Premise role, Crous has been an integral part of the team for the past four years, driving the Off-Premise team to a number of Supplier of the Year awards from Countdown, The Bottle-O, Thirsty Liquor, and Big Barrel.

His reputation and experience in delivering commercial results, inspiring customers, and building high-performance teams across his career is set to stand Christiaan in excellent stead in the new role, says DB.

Christiaan replaces Paul Millward, who is leaving DB after almost 12 years with the company.
