Ponsonby’s newest venue and first microbrewery opens its doors

Ponsonby’s newest venue and only microbrewery, has opened for business.

Located at 130 Ponsonby Road in Auckland, Hideaway is inspired by European garden bars, with plenty of greenery and comfortable seating.

The brainchild of Ben Taylor and Steve Ryder, who have been friends for more than 20 years, they wanted to create a space where people could come together and relax.

“A place where they could enjoy good food, good drinks, and good company,” says Taylor.

Taylor has extensive experience as an Auckland bar manager, with a portfolio of successful bars and restaurants behind him, while Ryder is a local business owner and CEO who is passionate about developing New Zealand businesses and sustainable business practices.

The pair are also co-founders of the in-house microbrewery, Saint Leonards Brewing, along with founding brewers Vlad Petrovic and Rory Clarke.

In addition to serving their own Saint Leonards beer on tap, Hideaway features an extensive range of beers from other New Zealand breweries such as Urbanaut, Three Sisters and Deep Creek.

“We’re really excited to finally be open,” says Ryder. “We’ve been working on this project for a long time, and we can’t wait to share it with the people of Auckland.”
