A fleeting visit for Auckland’s very first Swedish bar – Kapell

kapell-12cropTo celebrate the start of Sweden’s summer, Rekorderlig Cider brought a taste of Sweden to Auckland by creating the city’s very first Swedish bar – Kapell Bar, for just two weeks. In just 12 hours, Rekorderlig Cider transformed Chapel Bar & Bistro, one of Ponsonby’s most iconic bars, to create Kapell Bar (the Swedish translation of Chapel).

Kapell Bar was open for two weeks (May 7th – 17th) only, and for that time everything you could see and taste at Kapell Bar was inspired by Rekorderlig’s homeland – Sweden. Chapel Bar’s chef, Tom Williamson, created a limited edition Swedish-inspired menu including Pytt i Panna (Braised beef, smoky bacon, white beans, roasted peppers and a fried egg) and every visitor to Kapell was given the chance to win Swedish spot prizes.
Emma Rock, Rekorderlig Cider Brand Manager, said Kapell Bar was a chance to celebrate the ciders’ Swedish heritage by ‘bringing a slice of Scandinavia to the city’.
“We were really excited to bring this Beautifully Swedish experience to Auckland. Sweden is renowned for luxe interiors, simple design and friendly hospitality so we wanted to recreate this – what better way to do it than by transforming the much-loved Chapel Bar! It was no mean feat completely converting Chapel to Kapell Bar in less than 12 hours but we were extremely excited by the result.”
