Less than a year after opening, The Jefferson has become well established as Auckland’s home to whisky, with over 600 whiskies from all over the world available at the bar. This month marks a special milestone, as the bar officially becomes an Ardbeg Embassy, the first and only on-premise Embassy for the famous Scotch malt in New Zealand.
The announcement comes just in time for Ardbeg Day, an annual celebration where lovers of the peaty spirit gather all over the world to sample a limited edition release from the Islay distillery.
“We are genuinely delighted to have the honour of being the official Ardbeg Embassy bar here in New Zealand,”says owner Ofir Yudilevich. “We set out to create a place where whisky lovers and first-timers could all find something they love to drink. And Ardbeg is certainly well loved – there are over 120,00 Ardbeg Committee members around the world. Some of them are already regulars here at The Jefferson, so we are looking forward to celebrating Ardbeg Day with them on the 28th of May.’
All guests at The Jefferson that night will have the chance to sample the 2016 Ardbeg Day release called ‘Dark Cove’ and learn a little about the story and flavours in the glass.
“Part of The Jefferson experience is the personal touch – we try to understand what you like and what kind of flavours you’d like to try whether you’re a big whisky fan or you’re only just beginning,” says Yudilevich.
“We want every customer to walk away having enjoyed something special and learned a little along the way. We always say that with this many whiskies in stock, we have that one whisky for everyone and now we’re looking forward to sharing more about Ardbeg with our guests.”
It’s the beginning of an exciting season for the Fort Lane bar, recently nominated for Outstanding Bar and Outstanding Bartender (Ian Riley, bar manager) in the Lewisham Foundation awards and more exclusive whisky news to be announced in June.
